Kendal Town play their second friendly tonight at Dalton as they build up to their new life in the Northern League.
Manager Jimmy Marshall is pleased with the mix of friendlies the club has arranged and expects to have a side in place which can challenge in their new surroundings.
They opened with a 7-1 win at Caton United, one of Marshall’s old teams, and Dalton will also be opposition from lower down the football pyramid.
He said: “That’s why I think we have a good mix of matches because after these two we have two League clubs in Morecambe and Carlisle United.
“We had more of the ball against Caton and I expect something similar tonight at Dalton, but against the two Football League sides it will be good to see how we cope with not as much possession.
“Really in pre-season it isn’t about the results it’s about getting minutes into lads legs and that’s what I’ll be looking for.
“I also hope to be able to bring in a couple more players to the squad before we start our League programme at the end of the month.
“What I would say is I was impressed with some of our Under-23s who got their chance against Caton and I look forward to see how they continue to develop.”
Chairman Michael O’Neill said: “I’m proud, that we’ve now got both an under-18s side and under-23s to complement our first team. We have plans to add an Under-16s team next season, creating clear pathways for talented Kendal/Cumbrian players.”
Scorers in the 7-1 win over Caton included Ricardo Marquez and Lucas Pinington, two of their Under-23’s, while also on the score-sheet were Steve Yawson (2), Matt Dudley, James Bailey and Ben Thomas.
