After their disappointing exit from the NCCA Trophy competition Cumbria start their three-day championship programme this weekend.

They start with a trip to Jesmond on Sunday to take on Northumberland where four players are set to make their debuts in this competition.

Stan McAlindon, formerly with Carlisle, but a Durham county player attached to the Tynemouth club and Carlisle opener Oliver Spedding both played for Cumbria in the younger age groups, but are selected at senior level for the first time.

Penrith wicket-keeper Ali Craig and Netherfield batsman Reece Irving have played for the County in the T20 and the Trophy respectively, but not yet played in the three-day Championship.

They will follow over 450 other players who have represented the county in Minor Counties/National Counties championship games previously.

The team is: Matthew Sempill (Cockermouth, capt), Ali Craig (Penrith, wk), Sam Dutton (Kendal), Freddie Fallows (Kendal), Reece Irving (Netherfield), Stan McAlindon (Tynemouth and Durham), Ed Moulton (Chorley), Sam Sharp (Kendal), Oliver Spedding (Carlisle), Ben Walkden (Newton-le-Willows), Nico Watt (Carlisle).
