A north Cumbrian village primary school has been rated outstanding by Government inspectors.
Lanercost C of E Primary School, near Brampton, is celebrating the rating by Ofsted.
The inspection, which took place last month, looked at several aspects of the school, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. Lanercost C of E Primary excelled in all areas.
Headteacher Lexi Wilkinson said: “This achievement is thanks to our teachers, support staff, children, and parents. Everyone has played a crucial role in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for our children.”
Chair of governors Julie Hogg added: “On behalf of the governing board, we would like to congratulate the staff, children and community on this Outstanding result.
“Lanercost has always been an outstanding school for my family, and I am so pleased that the Ofsted inspection was able to see that.”
The Ofsted report highlighted several strengths of Lanercost C of E Primary School. Inspectors noted: “Staff are positive role models. They foster pupils’ love of reading remarkably well.”
Another highlight was the ambitious curriculum. Inspectors said: “The curriculum is highly ambitious. It enables pupils, including those with SEND, to shine in each subject,” the report stated. It also mentioned how the school uses local resources to enhance learning.
The report praised how staff deliver the curriculum in an engaging way that sparks children’s curiosity and said teachers were well-supported with top-notch resources and training.
Inspectors observed that the school’s meticulous approach to teaching ensures children excel academically. They said: “The school carefully checks that staff deliver the curriculum well. As a result, pupils excel academically and are well prepared for their next stage of education.”
Lanercost C of E Primary also offered excellent opportunities for children to develop their character, talents, and interests, the report said.
Leadership at the school, including staff and governors, received high praise. Inspectors said: “Staff and governors are incredibly proud to be a part of this inspirational school.”
Ms Wilkinson emphasised that while the rating was a significant milestone, the school was committed to continuous improvement.
She added: “We will continue to strive for excellence in all areas and ensure that Lanercost C of E Primary remains a place where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.”
