A spectacular goal three minutes from the end gave Workington a 2-1 win over Carlisle City last night.
Greg McCarragher thumped home a superbly struck shot from 25 yards into the top corner.
It was Reds third friendly of pre-season and their first at Borough Park, and Mark Fell’s men had to come from behind to register a second successive victory.
City, playing their second warm-up game under new manager Dan Kirkup, had seen more of the ball in the first-half and just about deserved their half-time lead.
It came on 44 minutes when Jordan Irving hoisted a dangerous, deep cross from the right which Steve Swinglehurst had to deal with by the far post.
His header actually hit the bar and rebounded to Callum Birdsall who needed no second request to thump into the net.
Workington were closest to scoring when Dav Symington got in down the middle but Scott Paden-Gale, a former Workington keeper, made an excellent block with his legs.
In the second half Workington got more od the ball and it did not take long to equalise.
On 54 minutes Kai Nugent delivered a telling cross from the left and Steven Rigg scored with a diving header.
Fell continued to make changes, throughout the half as he looked at a number of trialists, the best of whom was a 19-year-old centre-half just released by a Championship club.
Josh Galloway looked quick and sharp, testing Paden-Gale with a thundering effort from just outside the area.
At the other end, on 82 minutes Liam Lightfoot rattled a post with a cracking effort from outside the area.
It was looking like a 1-1 draw, which would probably have been a fair result over the piece, but McCarragher had other thoughts with his fine strike to win it for Reds.
