Carlisle United midfielder Alfie McCalmont is the latest departure from Brunton Park – and he’s heading Down Under.

McCalmont will be joining the Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners.

The 24-year-old had started his United career as a loanee from Leeds United in January 2023 and he went on to make 19 appearances in the promotion season.

His move was then made permanent and last season he made 35 appearances for the Blues and scored two goals.

Manager Paul Simpson told the club’s official wensite: “When I had the conversations at the end of the season with the players, Alfie was the one who surprised me and disappointed me.

“I asked everyone if they were 100 per cent committed to taking this club back up the league, and he said he wanted to leave.

“His agent has been working to find him a club and Alfie sees this as a fantastic opportunity to go and further his career

“We all wish him the best and thank him for his efforts during his time with us.”
