Barrow centre-back James Chester has turned down the offer of a new deal at the club to join League Two rivals Salford City.
The 35-year-old Chester, who lists Carlisle United among his back catalogue, had joined the Blues on loan from Manchester United in the 2010/11 season.
He played 24 games for the Blues and scored twice but then joined Hull City where he went on to appear 156 times (7 goals) and during which time he earned the first of 35 Welsh caps.
Since then he’s gone on to play for West Brom (13), Aston Villa (119), Stoke City (65), Derby County (7) and then Barrow last season where he figured 38 times and scored two goals.
After Salford announced his signing they introduced him to the fans via their official website when he said: “I still have a desire to play and win, so hopefully the supporters will see that from me.
“I was out in Dublin with the squad last week and it is a really good group to be around, and there are a lot of young players here too, so hopefully I can help them and bring them along as well.
“I think the week as a whole was brilliant, it was a tough week but I think one which is important to have at this stage of the season to get yourself ready for the opening day.
“I still have the desire to carry it on and take it further, and all the Salford fans will see that.”
Barrow play Salford at home on Saturday, October 28 and visit the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday, February 17.
