Workington Reds have sealed the signing of Jamie Allen, a second half trialist in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Morecambe.
Allen, 29, is an experienced forward who spent last season with Curzon Ashton in National North and has consistently played at the higher end of non-League football.
Preston-born Allen, who started his career with Fleetwood Town in their youth system back in 2012 went on to sign professional and made his Football League debut the following year.
While with Fleetwood he went out to Barrow on loan and scored twice in 17 games while also having five games on loan, and one goal, with FC Fylde.
When he was released by Fleetwood in 2015 he had 13 games for Stalybridge Celtic (three goals) before being signed by National League Southport.
In 68 games with the Haig Avenue side he scored 14 times but when they were relegated to National North he left Lancashire for the first time, signing for Dover Athletic.
Two seasons there saw him play 53 times, scoring seven goals before his contract was cancelled by mutual contract and he came back north to join FC Halifax Town where 88 appearances at the Shay saw him score nine times.
While at Halifax in 2022 he was a contestant on the eighth series of Love Island, lasting until day 51, and on his return his contract with Town was cancelled by mutual consent.
He then had a one-year deal with Telford United, playing 29 times without a goal before signing for Curzon Ashton last season but playing only briefly.
He was given half an hour at the end of Reds game with Morecambe and looked sharp and lively. He has played largely as a pacey winger throughout his non-league career.
Reds are also set to announce three loan deals – two youngsters returning from Carlisle United and a Gateshead centre-back joining as well.
