A sensory room has opened at Millom Family Centre.
National charity Family Action operates a 0-19 child and family support service, providing group and one-to-one support, advice and activities for families in the town
The new sensory room, called the Duddon Den, is an innovative space designed to support the learning and development of children aged 0-5, as well as those with special educational needs and disabilities up to eight years old.
It offers a tranquil and engaging environment where children can explore and interact with a variety of sensory experiences. The room features equipment that stimulates all five senses, providing a unique and valuable resource for local families, the charity said.
Emma Scott, operational manager at Family Action, said: “We are absolutely delighted to open the doors of the Duddon Den to our community.
“This sensory room is more than just a space; it’s a nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and discover at their own pace. The positive feedback from families has been overwhelming, and it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.”
The sensory room was opened by Millom mayor Simone Faulkner.
She said: “I was so impressed with the ambience and seeing the toddlers using the room who were obviously enjoying the ability to independently change the colours of the light boxes. They looked totally relaxed in this new environment.
“I cannot over emphasise how this room will prove to be such an asset for the centre and all who will use it. I congratulate the enthusiasm and dedication of the staff which was truly evident. I look forward to being invited again to see more excellent work being produced.”
