Two members of Carlisle Hockey Club have enjoyed a successful time in Germany, playing for senior England teams in preparation for the World Cup which is taking place in October in Cape Town.
Andy Bradbury was playing for England Over-65s when they beat Germany/Scotland and the Netherlands 1-0 with each goal scored in the last quarter of the game.
Carlisle clubmate Keith Richardson was playing for England LX Over-70s and they beat Netherlands 2-0, drew with Ireland 1-1 and beat Germany 4-0.
Both teams topped their respective groups which augers well for the October trip to South Africa and the prestigious World Cup.
Keith, 72, has been a Carlisle hockey club member for 32 years and during that time has served as club coach and also as first team captain.
Andy, 67, has been a club member for 12 years and is the current club chairman.
He is attending a specialist training session in August at Austin Friars School run by Maddie Hinch, the ex-GB goalkeeper, and she has one of the best forwards Argentina has produced with her when they will be coaching goalkeeping and scoring in the D.
Keith said: “We both have further training sessions to do before we go to Cape Town and obviously we are both looking forward to it. Andy is an attacker and I am a defender.”
The globe-trotting pair took part in an International Grand Masters Festival in Holland last month and came home with gold medals.
