Every Life Matters, a Cumbria-based suicide prevention charity, will hold its first fundraising event later this year.
Stride Against Suicide, on September 22, aims to raise cash to go towards the charity’s work to bring down the high rates of suicide in the county and bring together people who have been impacted by suicide or are passionate about reducing it.
Teams of up to five are invited to run or walk as many laps as they can in two hours around the grounds of Fell Foot at the south end of Windermere.
Teams can run in memory of someone or just come to take part in a fun but also meaningful morning out.
The event seeks to break the stigma surrounding suicide by starting conversations and encouraging people to check in on another.
Chris Wood, charity manager, said: “Suicide is everyone’s business. We can all make a difference and potentially save lives, whether that’s looking out for a mate, learning suicide prevention skills or joining in with some fundraising.
“We hope Stride Against Suicide is another way to get the conversations about suicide happening while running your socks off to get round as many laps as possible.
“It’s great that the National Trust and Fell Foot have partnered with us on this event and we would love for more Cumbrian businesses to get involved.
“We’ve already got lots of people signed up, most of who are running to remember a loved one, a friend, relative or colleague.”
The charity is inviting local Cumbrian businesses to join them in their cause and show support for suicide prevention in Cumbria with a sponsorship or donation.
They are looking for sponsorship on all levels from donation of prizes to sponsorship of T-shirts worn by competitors and towards the running of the event. If a business is interested in sponsorship email Claire Humphreys at claire.humphreys@every-life-matters.org.uk
