Workington Comets have moved to try and bolster their points-scoring potential at reserve ahead of the signing deadline.
Although she is on a higher average than Sam McGurk, and won a race against Poole on Saturday, Celina Liebmann is the one who will be leaving the Comets line-up.
Promoter Andrew Bain said: “Everyone at Workington Speedway would like to thank Celina for her commitment to the Comets.
“Her passion is unquestionable and she will undoubtedly carry on making great progress.
“However, with the deadline to make changes imminent we have to act on it before Monday, so unfortunately to achieve our goal of the play-offs we have to make this change.”
Recent results have not been up to standard with Poole being an example which is why, before Monday’s deadline, the Comets say they have to make a change to add more stability to their reserve berths.
Unfortunately, with the GT Tyres Comets seeking a play-off position the club feel it is necessary to make a team change at reserve now while they can, to carry on with that ambition.
They have back-to-back meetings over the next two weekends which could help determine where they stand in relation to the top four.
They are fourth at the moment but only a point better-off than Glasgow who have two matches in hand.
This weekend – Friday (away) and Saturday (home) they face Redcar Bears and the following week Saturday (away) and Sunday (home) they take on the Berwick Bandits.
Celina made history joining the Comets throughout the winter by being the first female to compete in British Speedway’s professional leagues and all her three heat wins have come at the Northside Arena.
But as one seasoned Comets observer and fan said: “She is quick enough and has a very tidy style but her gating lets her down and unless you’re in the mix in the first and second bends then scoring points is always going to be tough for her.”
In a farewell message to the fans, Celina said: “It was a really great time and it makes me very sad that I have to leave the team. I wish them all the best and every success for the rest o the season. Thanks for the opportunity.”
Workington Comets have already signed up Paul Starke as her replacement.
