Whigfield felt the long arm of the law when she appeared in Whitehaven yesterday – for daring to play on a Friday night!
The singer, most famous for her 1990s monster hit Saturday Night, was larking around with Copeland Police at Whitehaven’s Colours Festival, which began last night with a concert on the harbourside.
Copeland Police said: “PC 3157, PC 2503 and PC 2241 are at Whitehaven Pride conducting proactive patrols.
“A number of stop searches have been conducted and arrests including Whigfield who dared to play on a Friday night and not a Saturday Night!”

Part of a three-day celebration organised by Proud and Diverse Cumbria, the free concert also featured boy band Blue.
Today, Saturday August 3, Pride on the Harbourside returns.
There will be trade stalls, food, goodies, activities, a funfair and more. There will also be live music from acts including DJ Sash, Mary Kiani and Jenny Ball.
A new cafe and drop-in centre, Colours Whitehaven, opened on August 1 on King Street.
Proud and Diverse Cumbria said: “These events are free, simply because we want to put a smile on faces and bring some joy to the town.
“None of this would be possible without the continued support of our sponsors. The council, the nuclear industry, and many more have been integral in making this three-day event possible.
“We look forward to what the future holds with the new drop-in centre. We want people to realise that Proud and Diverse Cumbria is not strictly about supporting the LGBTQ community; we want to make an impact and attempt to eradicate all inequalities within our society, whether that is race, sexuality, or financial inequality.”
