Barrow completed their final preparations for the start of League Two next Saturday with a 1-0 home win over a young Wigan Athletic side.
The Latics had played a game the night before, a 2-1 defeat at Tranmere Rovers, as manager Shaum Maloney looked at his other options at Holker Street.
It was a solid performance from the Bluebirds which pleased new head coach Steven Clemence as he prepares for the opening game on Saturday.
The only goal of the game came on 68 minutes from Emile Acquah the original shot from Elliot Newby was parried by the Wigan keeper Andy Lonergan and fell loose for the striker to capitalise on.
Five minutes earlier Acquah had been denied by Lonergan who got down really well to scoop out a powerful downward header.
Recent signing Jackson looked a particular good recruit, often prominent on the ball and close to a debut goal with a strike which came back off the bar.
Garner also struck the woodwork and veteran keeper Lonergan made a couple of outstanding saves to keep Wigan in the game.
With Clemence encouraged by the performances from his new recruits, and general shape of the side, he’s going into the first game on Saturday at home to Crewe, with plenty of confidence.
