Play-off push is still on – Workington Comets boss

Workington Comets manager James Denham insists a play-off push is still on – but knows big points are required against Berwick this weekend.

The Comets salvaged a home win against Redcar on Saturday but lost the aggregate point to the Bears, who climbed above them into the top four of the Cab Direct Championship.

With other teams also in contention, Denham knows two strong displays when they face the Bandits on Saturday and Sunday will be vital.

He said: “I was a bit nervous as Redcar go well around here at Northside. But we pulled it out of the bag and Antti Vuolas was absolutely fantastic, and Bomber – Chris Harris – was a fantastic guest.

“The result keeps us in there, but it’s all about Berwick next week. We could really do with going there and getting a good result as well as the result at Northside on Sunday afternoon.

“If we do that it will be five big points if we get the aggregate point as well.”
