A new walking group for parents and babies has been launched in the Lake District.
Set up by mum-of-two and qualified mountain leader Katherine Dombrowsky, it welcomes new parents, carers and grandparents and all the walks are free.
Katherine, who set up the group during her second maternity leave, said: “I wanted to make the most of my maternity leave and get out hiking.
“We’re really lucky to live where we do with gorgeous fells and lakes on our doorstep. When you’ve had a bad night of sleep and been up several times feeding the baby, it can be really easy to not leave the house, but I never regret getting outside with my little one.
“The opportunity to make new friends while the babies enjoy some fresh air or just have a nap in the carrier is brilliant. It really feels like I’m doing something positive for my own mental and physical health.”
So far, the group has walked up Latrigg, Binsey, and Rannerdale Knotts, and has enjoyed walks to tarns and alongside lakes.

Katherine said an average walk saw eight parents join, braving the elements in rain, wind, and sunshine.
The group walks at the pace of the slowest member, with plenty of time allocated for feeding, changing nappies, and taking photos. Baby carriers and waterproofs can be loaned. Often the walks finish at a cafe for well deserved cake and more chat.
The Cockermouth-based group is part of Blaze Trails, the UK’s parent and baby walking community. Blaze Trails supports parents in getting outdoors and walking with their babies, providing the companionship, support, and inspiration needed to make outdoor adventures fun and achievable.
