M6 closed after serious crash between Kirkby Lonsdale and Tebay

The M6 northbound between junctions 36 and 38 remains closed after a fatal collision.

The incident, which happened at around 11am today, Thursday, August 15, involved a single vehicle.

Police said: “The northbound carriageway is likely to remain closed for some time while police and partners continue their work at the scene of the incident.”

No further details have been released.

Diversion route

Road users are advised to follow the route marked by the hollow diamond diversion symbol on local road signs: 

  • Exit junction 36 Farleton take the A590 westbound to the Brettargh Holt junction.
  • Follow A591 Plumgarths Roundabout take the third exit A5284 to Kendal.
  • Follow A5284 Windermere Rd turning left with all traffic onto A6 Sandes Ave.
  • Follow the A6 northbound out of Kendal towards Shap Toll Bar junction.
  • At Shap Toll Bar junction turn right onto the B6261 and then turn left at the M6 jct 39 Shap.
