A man has appeared in court accused of stealing two horses from a Cumbrian animal charity’s base.
Thomas Price, 60, faces two separate charges.
One alleges the theft — by finding — of horses, which have been given a value of £450. They are said to have been taken from the Oak Tree Animals Charity site near Wetheral, between August 12 and August 13 this year.
A prosecutor at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this afternoon said police had received a call from the charity on Tuesday to say that the two animals had been stolen from them.
Price faces a second charge which alleges that he breached a criminal behaviour order on August 13. It is alleged that Price did so having been found, on the M42 in the West Midlands, in a motor vehicle towing a trailer which contained horses.
The order was imposed by a magistrates’ court in Wales on February 16 2023.
No pleas were entered by Price, of Redway Road, Bonvilston, west of Cardiff, when he appeared in front of a district judge.
After hearing submissions, judge John Temperley concluded that the case should be sent to Carlisle Crown Court.
Price is due to appear there in front of a judge on September 16. In the meantime he has been remanded in custody after a bail application was refused.
