Tony Quinn’s game-changing moment at Cockermouth

Man of the match Tony Quinn

Workington travelled to Cockermouth with only nine players last night and managed to come away with a win in the West Cumbria Midweek League.

The visitors batted and made 148 all out, recovering from 2-2 after one over.

Runs came from Ben Scott (35 retired), Josh Burns (31 retired), Simon Canfield (35 retired) and Tony Quinn (30 retired) – the latter being a great knock from someone who doesn’t play weekend cricket.

Cockermouth put up a good chase and were bowled out for 132 all out after 18 overs. Jeremy Church, Silas Hesslewood, and Mark Middleton all hit 30 retired.

A successful chase looked on until Simon Canfield bowled the last man Regan Tinnion to win the game.

However, the game-changing moment came after 14 overs when that man Quinn took a superb one-handed catch to dismiss the dangerous Shane Cusack for single figures.

That was Workington’s final games as they now wait for other results to determine the League title winners.

However it could be very close as teams have all beaten each other this year compared to last year when TLM won it with a 100% record.
