Hard-pressed Whitehaven received over £2,000 from Championship rivals Bradford Bulls following fundraising efforts at Odsal on Sunday.
The Bulls handed-out a 58-0 mauling but the hand-out afterwards was typical of the caring within the general rugby league family.
Fans at the game contributed around £900 through bucket collections as well as a guess the score competition which was held in the sponsors Southbank Hospitality Suite.
A Paul Anderson signed Great Britain shirt also raised £500 at an auction after the game.
The total donation topped £2,000 and Bradford also waived the loan fees for Sam Ackroyd’s spell at Whitehaven.
A message from the Bulls said: ““We hope this is just the start and we would like nothing more than our fellow Championship clubs, who are hosting Whitehaven, to surpass our figure.
“We wish Les Messenger, Jonty Gorley and everyone at Whitehaven all the best for the remainder of the season and beyond.”
Whitehaven’s interim CEO Les Messenger appealed for support from the local community last week, admitting that the club was in dire straits.
Whitehaven are looking at a four figure crowd for Sunday’s Championship game against Doncaster at the Ortus REC and have several initiatives planned for the day.
