A Cumbrian youngster is the only person in England to win a prestigious award for environmental work.
Amy Bray, 21, founder and CEO of environment education charity Another Way, has been chosen by the North American Association for Environmental Education as one of its 30 leaders under the age of 30.
Amy will join a growing class of young leaders using environmental education to build more just and sustainable communities around the world.
She said: “It is an honour to be recognised amongst so many young global leaders striving to push awareness forward on some of the biggest issues of our time.
“For me, seeing the impact our work has on young people is reward enough, but being recognised as a leader in my field provides increased motivation to reach more people with the latest climate and environment science.”
Amy was particularly recognised for her pioneering work through Another Way to bring complex issues such as climate change and ocean conservation to the public in accessible and engaging ways.
Through her Power of 10 project, she has already worked with 250 young people in the North West of England to support them to take climate action and learn more about environmental issues, as well as running workshops and talks in their own schools.
The project has already launched over 50 resources for young people and is launching nationally in September. Amy also communicates the latest environment science through Another Way’s Translating Science project – a blog and social media videos.
Since 2016, NAAEE’s EE 30 Under 30 programme has recognised 271 individuals from 53 countries who are making a difference through environmental education.
