This year’s Cumbria Classic & Motorsport Show, organised by Wigton Motor Club, proved to be the most successful yet.

There were 840 cars entered, including over 30 car clubs at the event at Dalemain, near Penrith.

On the Saturday, over 90 cars took part in the Rose & Thistle Tour which was a 140 touring assembly from Carlisle into the Borders with a lunch halt at Hexham and then tea at Penrith.

Bumper crowds came from all over the north, and the entrants came from as far as Fife and Epsom.

The car park at Dalemain was overflowing with enthusiasts who were entertained by a dog show in the morning and the ever popular autotest which brought new members to the ever growing Wigton Motor Club.

The many trade stands and charities did a roaring trade.

In mid-afternoon, the class winners were brought into the arena and they voted for the Car of the Show which went to David Martin’s Morris Z van with Post Office Telephones livery. Appropriately, he received the Graham Martin Trophy.

Wigton Motor Club stand had a display of competition cars for all levels of competition from the M-Sport World Rally Car to those used on local targa rallies.

A number of well-known motoring personalities visited the show, including Malcolm Wilson OBE, of M-Sport.
