Sections of the A596 will close overnight from next week for roadworks.

Contractors will be working on the road at Aspatria and Low Whinnow to Micklethwaite.

Resurfacing work will be carried out at Aspatria from Wednesday, August 28.

It is expected to last for four nights, but the work is weather dependent.

It will be carried out from 7pm to 6am and the A596 will be closed. A diversion route will be in place.

Cumberland Council is asking that all vehicles be removed from the road by 7pm on Wednesday August 28, and people find alternative parking arrangements for the duration of the work.

From Sunday, September 1, resurfacing work will be carried out on the A596 from Low Whinnow to Micklethwaite.

The road will be closed from 7pm to 6am.

It is expected to last for three weeks, but is weather dependent.

A signed diversion route will be available.

Access for emergency vehicles will always be maintained. The road will be closed overnight only, with temporary two-way traffic signals in place at some locations where structural treatments are being performed.

Residents needing access during the evening should discuss this with the traffic marshal on site, who will also be able to answer any other queries that people may have.
