Wigton throw spanner into works

Wigton have thrown a spanner into the works in the West Cumbria Mixed Triples League.

In a match which should have been played on 18 June at title-chasing Workington but was postponed, Wigton produced a fine performance to win 6-3.

It left Workington five points behind leaders Whitehaven A but with a match in hand, while Wigton drew level with the Low Green team, but from a game more.

Other results from August 20 were – Vulcan Park 8, Harris Park A 1; Harris Park B 2, Cleator Moor 7; Seascale 0, Croft 9; Maryport 2, Whitehaven A 7; Seaton 7, Egremont 2.

League standings (Games played and points): Whitehaven A 12-74, Workington 10-69, Wigton 11-69, Croft 11-67, Cleator Moor 12-51, Seaton 11-49, Harris Park A 11-46, Whitehaven B 8-41, Seascale 12-39, Maryport 10-38, Harris Park B 12-30, Vulcan Park 12-28, Egremont 10-20.

In the West Cumbria Fours League sponsored by Whitehaven Trophies, only two matches were played on Friday with the results- Fitz Park 7, Seaton 0 and Vulcan Park 5, Cleator Moor 2.

League standings ( Games played and points): Workington A 14-86, Fitz Park 16-80, Whitehaven A 14-74, Cleator Moor 16-62, Maryport 16-59, Vulcan Park 15-35, Seaton 16-29, Whitehaven B 15-23.
