
A Lake District chef has reached the UK final of a prestigious competition.
Wayne Munn, of the Langdale Chase Hotel in Windermere, is one of nine shortlisted in the S Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition, a global initiative that strives to discover and support the most inspiring young chefs around the world.
The bi-annual competition and academy aims to push the boundaries of gastronomy and has the support of some of the most celebrated figures in the industry.
Wayne will compete at the UK final at Le Cordon Bleu in London on September 25. He and his fellow finalists are the UK’s most promising chefs under 30.
They will present their signature dishes to the renowned jury who will judge the candidates’ signature dishes and select the winners of four awards. The winner of the prestigious S Pellegrino Young Chef Award will then go on to represent the UK at the global Grand Finale in Milan next year.
Wayne impressed an international judging panel, rising to the top of thousands of applications from all over the world who were inspired to enter the competition to share their vision and connect with the most influential people in the gastronomic world.
Now sous chef at The Langdale Chase Hotel, he previously worked at Rothay Manor, Ambleside.
Wayne said: “I got into cooking as I love seeing people’s reactions to eating my food. The sheer look of joy is what makes cooking worthwhile to me. Food has the power to bring people together and I want to be the best at it. Being a finalist in this competition is an achievement I didn’t think I’d get, but now I’m there I want to go for it.”

TThroughout the following months, each global finalist will be accompanied by Mentor Chefs, who will provide them with guidance on how to improve their signature dishes and support them in their preparation for the international finals.
