Mike Williamson, head coach with MK Dons and the latest to be linked with a similar position at Carlisle United has been asked about the rumours.

He was speaking to the local Milton Keynes media after his side had lost 2-1 to Colchester United in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

The former Newcastle United defender has become the latest to be linked with the job as Carlisle say they are close to announcing a new double act of sporting director and head coach.

Williamson, as well as Gateshead boss Rob Elliot and ex-Preston manager Ryan Lowe have also been mentioned for the head coach role with David Flitcroft and Ricky Martin two mentioned as the possible new sporting director.

Asked about the rumours linking him with Carlisle United, Williamson said: “Since I came in, there has been speculation. I’ve been linked with two, three or four jobs.

“I’ve not heard anything on it, so I’m just focused on the boys, and from a really good performance, I want to watch the game back. I want to make sure we’re better for Saturday.”

Carlisle owner Tom Piatak says that the family is very close to announcing the new duo who will be asked to work together and pull United out of their current plight – third bottom of League Two.
