Penrith ladies got back to winning ways with a comfortable 8-1 win against visitors Fleetwood Town Wrens.
The home side got off to a good start having early chances to take the lead.
Eventually after 10 minutes Jodie English beat two players in the penalty box before pulling the ball back to Elli Gallacher, who made no mistake, finishing well into the bottom corner.
Abbie Forster made it two soon after, taking the ball around the keeper before finishing from a tight angle.
Jodie English was next on the score-sheet, beating two defenders before finishing well from the edge of the area. Fleetwood were struggling to contain the Penrith front three with Forster proving
too hot to handle as she picked up a hat trick in the first half which gave Penrith a comfortable 5-0 lead at the break and took her own tally to nine for the season.
Soon after the restart English bagged her 12th of the season and Penrith’s sixth of the match before a good counter attack from the visitors saw them pull one back.
Penrith continued to create chances and it was no surprise when a trademark classy finish from Gallacher resulted in the young 16-year-old picking-up her second goal of the game.
With 10 minutes to go it was the turn of another 16-year-old to get on the score sheet as Maddie Ferguson did well to score after seeing her initial shot saved by the Fleetwood goal keeper.
Penrith manager Jamie Fitzwilliam said after the game: “This was a good response to last week and was possibly our best performance of the season.
“The goal scorers always get the headlines but our back four and mid-field controlled the game and set the tempo.
“That’s six wins from our first seven games and we have picked up an amazing 48 goals in that run. It’s early days but it has been a promising start to the season.
“Special mention should go to some of our young players as we had four 16-year-olds in the team today and they all acquitted themselves well.
“Elli Gallacher has started the season really well picking up her sixth goal and it was good to see Maddie Ferguson pick up her first competitive goal for the club.
“Maddie Routledge only turned 16 on Monday and she has come into the starting 11 and produced a Player of the Game performance in the centre of midfield.
“Overall there were a lot of positives to take from the game.”
