Plans have been revealed for a new cafe to be built on Maryport’s Promenade.
A planning application has been submitted for a new Promenade café in Maryport.
If it gets the go-ahead, it would be built on the site of the public toilet block.
Built in the 1980s, the block has fallen into disrepair and been targeted by vandals. It would be demolished to make way for the cafe.
Cumberland Council is behind the plans.
It will include internal and external seating areas, with large windows to make the most of the views across the beach and the Solway beyond.
There will be public toilets and the potential for retail space for the operators to use as a beach shop.
Though the building’s footprint is fixed by the planning application, the operator will have the chance to get involved in the interior layout to best suit their needs, the authority said.
Cumberland Council is managing the £12 million regeneration of Maryport and this planning application is the next step in Maryport’s transformation, it said. The money for the Promenade improvements is being provided by Government funding.
