Maryport and Wath Brow A will go head-to-head again tomorrow to decide who wins the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League Premier Division.
This play-off decider was needed after Maryport pulled-off a 26-24 win over the Brow last week to finish the season level on points.
The spin of a coin decided the venue for the shoot-out and Seaton are set to stage this latest contest between two of the League’s heavyweights.
They still have to meet in the final of the Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup, while there’s a strong possibility they could meet in the final of the top-four play-off.
So the two sides will know just about everything there is to know about the opposition by the time the season comes to an end.
Maryport coach Mark Foster said: “Last week was a very hard game as we expected and could have gone either way but we =got there in the end by two points.
“I am so proud of my players and what they have put in over the last few weeks. We started the second phase of the League in fifth place and knew we had to win every game to get a share of the title.
“The lads have been terrific as we beat Lowca and Cockermouth while Kells A were unable to get a team when we were due to play them. To top it all we had to beat Wath Brow and we did so.
“It’s going to be a very tough game again tomorrow and all I can ask for is the same effort that the lads have shown over the last few weeks. It’s been a long hard season and it would be nice to finish on a high.”
Wath Brow Hornets coach Paul Farrell said: “Obviously we were disappointed with the result last week although the performance in the first half was good.
“We have had a relaxing preparation, a good one in which the lads have enjoyed themselves and we have put smiles back on faces.
“There are going to be changes. We will be without the two lads who were injured last week, two more are on holiday and we have another with work commitments so we are still looking at the possibilities.
“It should be an absolute cracker and on a nice day it should attract a big crowd so we are looking forward to it.
“We need to restrict Maryport’s field positions and complete our sets. If we can I am confident we can put in a big performance and we are capable of making history and be crowned League champions.”
Meanwhile in the First Division top four play-offs Aspatria Hornets are through to the final as Hensingham A are unable to raise a side for tomorrow’s semi-final.
That leaves Askam and Distington A to go head-to-head and decide whom the Hornets will be playing in the final.
The Distington club already have a big game with the first team going for promotion against Drighlington and if the A team can beat Askam it would be an excellent achievement for the club who didn’t have a second team 12 months ago.
But Askam, in their first season in the Cumberland League, have been popular acquisitions and are looking forward to the chance of making a final.
Coach Cris Broadley said: “Our aim at the start of the season was to fulfil all our fixtures. We have done that and now have the chance to push on to try and win some silverware.
“All the lads are up for that and looking forward to the game. Both Lague matches with Distington A have been close ones and I expect the same tomorrow.
“We have one lad away at the Joshua fight and a couple of others are having late fitness tests but we should have a good squad available for the game.”
