Workington Comets management team are already hard at work on their team-building plans for 2025.
After a successful return to Championship speedway this season, promoters Andrew Bain and Steve Lawson, along with team manager James Denham want to push on next season.
Promoter Andrew Bain said: “We have, of course, already started with Tate Zischke confirmed for 2025 so far which is a fantastic early coup for us and one we are sure many other clubs will envy.
“But now it’s important to continue that strong start, and the wheels are already in motion for 2025 where we are in conversation with a number of riders already.”
“We need to know that the riders we want, want to ride for Workington and we are aiming to create an exciting team for 2025 and one which will compete for silverware.
“We worked tirelessly through last winter and we will do the same this winter to improve the facilities and experience at the GT Tyres Arena for 2025, but this is a long-term project we have got going so it cannot all happen at once.”
Co-promoter and Northside track curator Steve Lawson said: “It’s been a really good year, we have witnessed some top-class racing at the GT Tyres Arena this season and I’m sure there is still plenty more improvement to come out of the new track.
“It’s only its second season on the new track so next year as we see the track bed in even more and develop, I think we will only see the racing get better and better.
“From a promoter’s view reaching the play-offs was one of our goals and we did it so we can’t be any happier, and the riders we signed who were unknown at the start of the season have certainly added a bit of spice to the league and improved week on week.
“But also hosting events such as the Ben Fund Bonanza was brilliant for the club, especially only in our second year of running.”
Team manager James Denham added: “Before the season started, we were predicted by many to be close to the bottom of the league. We knew of course that with a team starting with three new members to British Speedway and so many unknowns that it was hard to call, but we have certainly proved many wrong.
“To reach the play-offs was a big achievement and one that we can take pride in. We got hit with some injuries, especially the big one for Tate but we recovered the best we could from that.
“We had some ups and downs along the way. Winning at Plymouth, Redcar and Berwick were some ups to name a few but as a whole, the season has been fantastic and it’s now on us to continue that improvement in 2025.
“Craig Cook and Troy Batchelor certainly proved the doubters wrong, and Craig was everything you could’ve asked for in a captain.”
“I would just like to thank every single one of our eight riders this year. It’s been a privilege and an honour to work with them. But also, I would like to thank the many guests we booked throughout the year for their efforts.”
