A painting by LS Lowry of Maryport will go under the hammer next month and is expected to sell for up to £1 million.
The 1955 oil on canvas is being auctioned by Christie’s on October 16. It features Senhouse Street – which is largely unchanged.
The Queen’s Head Inn in the right hand corner is now the Shipping Brow Gallery and was formerly the town’s maritime museum. The museum is due to move into a revamped Christ Church.
The painting belonged to Lowry’s friend Geoffrey Bennett. It has an estimate of between £700,000 and £1 million.
Prints of Maryport are available on Amazon for £19.95.
