A man has been jailed for 10 years for child sex offences committed while in a position of trust.

Keith Turner, 65, of Woodside Place, Leeds, was jailed at Carlisle Crown Court following a trial.

Turner was found guilty of six offences of indecent assault on a boy and gross indecency with a boy after a week-long trial.

He was also placed on the Sex Offender Register for life and given a sexual harm prevention order.

The offences were committed between in the early 2000s in West Cumbria.

Detective Constable Gail Penman, of the Public Protection Unit who was the investigating officer in the case, said: “Turner was in a position of trust when he committed the offences that have had a devastating and lasting impact on the victim.

“Today, Turner faces the consequences of his actions which he denied in interview.

“We continue to urge anyone who has been victim of a sexual offence to contact police so that our officers can investigate.

“No matter how long ago an incident occurred, we will do all we can to identify offenders and hold them to account.

“You will be supported throughout our investigation and the constabulary works closely with trusted partner agencies to provide the appropriate support which is tailored to an individual’s circumstances.”
