People living in Westmorland & Furness are urged to have their say about 20mph speed limits that could be coming to the area.

Twenty-eight proposals have been put forward by town and parish councils.

Over 2,000 people have so far provided feedback on the community-backed proposals and scheme designs.

The lower speed limits will only be introduced if community support is determined through the consultation, which closes on Friday October 18 at 5pm.

Those who wish to take part can do so by completing the online 20mph speed limit proposal consultation.

Paper copies and scheme proposals are also available at the following libraries: Alston, Ambleside, Appleby, Barrow, Coniston, Grange, Kendal, Kirkby Stephen, Ormsgill, Penrith, Shap, Ulverston, Walney and Windermere.

Four drop-in events will also be held at:

  • Melmerby Village Hall – Tuesday 8 October 8, 4pm to 7pm.
  • Barrow Library – Monday October 7, 10am to 4pm.
  • Kendal Town Hall – Tuesday October, 8, 4pm to 7pm.
  • Ambleside Parish Centre – Thursday October 10, 4pm to 7pm.
