Mountain Warehouse has removed an image of a tent pitched by Wastwater it was using as part of an advertising campaign.
People were astounded that the advert for the weekender four-man tent used the area – with one commenting “Does anyone else see the irony in the advertising the sale of a tent on the side of Wastwater in an area where no overnight camping is allowed?”
Cumbria Crack approached Mountain Warehouse and a spokesman said: “We did not intend to promote wild camping in the Lake District with our image and apologise if we gave that impression or caused offence.
“We have removed that image from our website and future communications.”
