Carlisle City’s Northern League game at Newcastle Blue Star was postponed last night because of a waterlogged pitch.
City manager Dan Kirkup had been warned earlier in the day by his opposite number at Blue Star that there could be a problem so the call off did not come as a surprise.
Kirkup said: “The rain had been torrential so I was expecting a call. It came early enough so that we did not have to travel.
“To be honest I’m not over concerned because it will give us an opportunity to get players back in for Saturday at home to Whitley Bay.
“I had hoped Callum Birdsall was going to be back but he might need more time to be ready to resume playing after his injury. He is such a big part of how we play.”
City were very poor on Saturday in a 3-0 defeat at lowly West Allotment Celtic and Kirkup felt that it was the poorest performance under his management.
He will be looking for a reaction on Saturday against Whitley Bay when the clash at Gillford Park sees 12th-placed City host a side who are a place behind, two points in arrears but with two games in hand.
