Workington Reds’ Jamie Allen tastes international football

Workington Reds striker Jamie Allen tasted over 30 minutes of international football last night.

Allen came on as a substitute for Montserrat in their Concacaf Nations League game at home to Bonaire but they lost 1-0, after winning the away leg 1-0 on Thursday.

The Reds striker came closest to grabbing a goal with a header which was just over the bar.

Allen, a former Love Island competitor, missed Saturday’s 2-1 win over Ilkeston Town but will be back and available for Saturday’s trip to Hude United.

Reds manager Mark Fell said: “Hopefully Jamie will have enjoyed the experience of international football and come through it ok. He had been struggling with a hamstring concern last month but was starting to get game time for us.”

Allen had come on as a sub against Morpeth Town to score Reds second goal in their 3-1 FA Trophy win against Morpeth Town before he had linked-up with the Montserrat squad.

After winning the game  three days earlier Montserrat manager Lee Bowyer was disappointed to lose the home return.

He now has two more group matches to plan for – at home to St Vincent on November 13 and then away to 100% leaders El Salvador on November 17.

Montserrat start their World Cup qualification next June with a home game against Belize.
