Carlisle United’s first-team coach Carl Magnay has left the club to take up the vacant managerial position at Gateshead FC.
Magnay arrived at Brunton Park last month as part of Mike Williamson’s coaching staff, having previously worked at MK Dons.
He will take up the role immediately and is joined by Liam Bridcutt, a former team-mate at Chelsea Under-21s when they were starting their respective careers.
Magnay, 35, is returning to Tyneside for the third time and in his spells with The Heed made 122 appearances including Wembley finals in 2014 and 2023. He was a coach with the club when they lifted the FA Trophy last season.
He had been a member of the coaching team at Gateshead when he left to join up with MK Dons under Mike Williamson.
After news of Magnay’s departure Williamson said: “Carl is a fantastic person to work with, he’s been great to have as part of the staff, but this is a really big opportunity for him and one he couldn’t turn down.
“We all wish him well and hope he goes on to have a successful time at Gateshead.”
