Darts is set for a major boost in West Cumbria and beyond next year through a group called Marras and Arras.
Formed in February 2023, Marras & Arras is a social – yet competitive – darts organisation based in and around Whitehaven.
Originally, the group ran weekly darts competitions using a round robin format capped at a maximum of 24 players.
Robert Atkinson is one of the organising committee and he said: “We soon realised that demand was massively out weighing supply and have now expanded to allow a maximum of 40 entries per week. At the time of writing we are currently running three different ranking series.”
The Speed Competitions Ranking Series is on Thursday nights and is capped at 30 players per week.
The Mini Development series is also on Thursday nights for players who average below 55 and is capped at 10 players.
The Nigel Kay Homes Development Series is ran monthly for players who average below 60 and capped at 30 players.
He added: “In 2025 we are aiming big and looking to bring the biggest and best ranking series West Cumbria has seen in recent years with the West Cumbria Super Series. There will be eight round robin events throughout 2025 each capped at 48 players.
“All of our events are ran using the dartsatlas.com platform. This allows us to use electronic scoring which reduces the pressure on novice players when it comes to marking games. Additionally it provides live updates to rankings and allows us to take registrations online. Individual games can even be followed from wherever you are.
“We have sponsorship opportunities on the Super Series with six event sponsors and title sponsor still to fill.”
Although initially set-up for Whitehaven and district, players now participate from Maryport, Workington and as far afield as Carlisle and Kirkby Stephen.
