Hounds travel to Edges Green

Thursday’s trails north of Carlisle at Edges Green had a three-card meeting which attracted 41 runners.

There was an early start with the first trail setting off at 2.30pm it had a good slip of 16 seniors.

The top hounds who are chasing the leader Silver Dream were running although she was resting after her win on Tuesday at Dearham.

Kennelmate Rodney Raider was running for the first time in a few weeks having been plagued by an injury.

Huntsman’s Rebel was also running although there have been no obvious injury problems with her, she just doesn’t seem to be herself of late.

The in-form Cockermouth team of Les and Graham Reid and Ellie Napier were running their hounds Money Talks, Mel and Strawberry Mick.

Lady Million, Foxparke Beep Beep and Embrace were all running as well so it was a very competitive race.

As they came onto the finish it was a good race but Graham Reid’s Money Talks had gained a lead from the pursuers and he crossed the line comfortably in front.

In second place was Joy and Brian Lister’s Lady Million who seems back to her old self with Hey Mac for Neil and Gillian Brown finishing well in third.

Les Reid and Ellie Napier’s Mel finished was fourth with David Clifford’s Eden Rayna in fifth place.

Laura Steele and Andrew and Joel Bulman and Ian Rumney’s Embrace took sixth ticket.

There was no joy for Denise Bland with Huntsman’s Rebel as time runs out for her to catch Silver Dream.

No luck, too, for Rodney Raider who is still struggling with injury problems and probably lacking in race fitness as a result.

Next to slip were the open pups with a reasonable number for this time of the season with 13 competing.

Puppy championship leader Huntsman’s Time was running but no Thornton, probably resting with Saturday in mind at Millstone Moor.

Other hounds of note running were the two local hounds Millie’s Lass and Millie’s Lad along with Blue Striker and Snowfell.

The last few times Snowfell has ran he hasn’t performed as well as he could, but the open running was expected to suit him better.

Indeed, once back on the finish it was Snowfell who showed that he can run and he finished well to cross the line in first place.

The Chisholm families’ Come Fly With Me, although hasn’t performed well throughout the season, has come into his own late on and finished well in second place.

Foxparke Elliot’s Lad who runs well for most of the trail but just lacks a little confidence in his finishing, finished in third place.

Blue Striker, as ever, is always there but like Foxparke Elliot’s Lad seems to throw races away once on the finish ending up only fourth for Erin and Brian Rowlandson.

Huntsman’s Time finished in fifth for Denise with local hound Millie’s Lass for George McGimpsey and Gillian and Millie Telford in sixth place.

It was Snowfell’s thirteenth win of the season and he is now four points behind second place Thornton.

The last race of the day was for the open maidens with 12 runners.

The race was a fairly open one but it was Foxparke Dealer who came in front and maintained the lead to cross the line in first place for the Napier and Butler kennel.

Malcolm Holmes’ Senor finished well in second place with the Lindsay sisters’ Discover in third.

Eden Romina never really disappoints and finished in fourth place adding to her points tally.

George Burgeon and Carol Logan’s Overwater Hunter was fifth with Joy and Brian Lister’s Imagine finishing in sixth place.

Action moves to Millstone Moor on Saturday with four races and the first one starts at 1pm.

On Sunday there is a return to Dubbs Lane followed on Monday with the trails among the scenic fells of Buttermere.

But with only two weeks left of the 2024 season things are still all to play for in the two major championships.
