A man has been jailed for stealing a quadbike – just days after it was taken.
Cumbria police’s Rural Crime Team said the quadbike was taken near Kendal at around 12.30pm on October 17.
It said: “Officers from Cumbria worked with colleagues from Durham Constabulary and North Yorkshire Police to respond.
“Responding to livetime tracker updates and using some good old local knowledge and intelligence, by 2.30pm Cumbria officers had two people arrested, one in the Durham area and one in North Yorkshire with the stolen quad recovered and a further vehicle seized for suspected use in crime.
“On Friday, we charged and remanded Michael Broomfield, 38, of Cheviot Walk, Coundon, Bishop Auckland for burglary.
“On Saturday, at Barrow Court he pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to six months in prison. Compensation was also awarded to the victim.”
A 35-year-old woman also from Bishop Auckland arrested on October 17 has been released on police bail.
The rural crime team added: “We regularly work with colleagues from bordering forces, both sharing intelligence and pooling resources to target our shared offenders.
“This incident saw significant co-ordination internally also, simultaneously intercepting both suspects some 50 miles-plus from the scene.
“Special credit goes to colleagues from Operational Support, Response, Intelligence, Control Room and Custody Investigation Team who we worked with to secure this conviction. We are also grateful to the members of the public and rural WhatsApp groups for their assistance.”
