Two men have been jailed at Carlisle Crown Court for robbery after they targeted a man with a samurai sword and axe.
Alfie Mcintosh, 21, of Raffles Avenue, Carlisle was jailed for three years nine months for robbery.
Ryan Worby, 23, of Newcastle Street, Carlisle was jailed for three years ten months for robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
Both pleaded guilty to the offence.
The court heard that on March 22 this year police received a 999 call from the victim, who said he was robbed by two men, identified at McIntosh and Worby.
The victim was walking home through a cut through between Osborne Avenue and Priory Road when he felt a tap on the shoulder and felt a presence behind him.
Turning around, he saw that one of the men was carrying a samurai sword which he described as being large.
The men asked for the victims’ property where he handed over his headphones, rucksack and phone. The second male was further up the alley holding some kind of weapon.
McIntosh and Worby have then shouted at the victim telling him to empty his pockets, which only contained a key and lighter.
Detective Constable Sarah Brookes said: “Worby and McIntosh put the victim through a horrific ordeal which left him fearful.
“Armed with weapons they were intent in causing their victim fear.
“Offences of this nature are unacceptable and today’s sentence reflects the seriousness taken by the courts and that we will do everything we can to bring criminals to justice.”
