Update: South Cumbria experiences ‘severe weather conditions’

South Cumbria experienced severe weather conditions overnight on Sunday, leading to warnings to drivers to only travel if necessary.

Roads closed and flood warnings and alerts were issued yesterday, Monday, October 28.

Here is the update today, Tuesday October 29.

Roads reopened

  • A595 at Duddon Bridge
  • Springfield Road, Ulverston

Roads closed

King Street, Ulverston and areas near the Gill due to a burst watercourse that has flooded a number of properties.

Flood alert

A flood alert is in place for:

  • Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck

River levels have continued to fall throughout today, Monday, October 28, but remain above the flood alert level.

Areas most at risk include Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck and other watercourses, from Coniston to Barrow including low lying areas around Ulpha, Duddon Bridge, Broughton in Furness, Kirkby-in-Furness, Dalton in Furness and Ulverston.

Flood warnings removed

  • Dragley and Lunds Becks at South Ulverston
  • Dragley Beck at Ulverston from Dragley Beck Bridge on Well Lane downstream to South Ulverston
  • Town Beck at Ulverston from The Ellers to Dragley Beck
  • Town Beck at Ulverston from The Gill downstream to The Ellers area
