Carlisle City went down 4-0 at North Shields in the Northern League – with the game virtually over after 16 minutes.
The home side scored three times in a match-winning opening spell as City’s poor record on the road continued.
Although they played well enough after that early home blitz the Cumbrians were unable to take the chances that came their way.
It’s been a case of being unable to do what was required in both boxes in a number of games this season which has contributed to their slide down the table.
North Shields had opened the scoring after only six minutes with a goal from Lewis Suddick and a minute later Jordan Lashley doubled the lead.
Suddick (a famous football name from the north east) knocked in his second on 16 minutes to virtually wrap-up the points.
City were competitive enough from that point but the only further goal came from Lashley in the 81st minute.
City will welcome a break from League football on Saturday when they host Blyth Town in the FA Vase.
Blyth Town are second in the Northern League Division One table at the moment, after gaining promotion last season, but manager Michael Connor has left.
Connor brought an end to his 16-year connection with Blyth Town after accepting an offer to become new manager of Northern Premier League neighbours Blyth Spartans.
Connor led Town to last season’s Northern League Division Two title in what will now be the last of the six promotions he achieved at Gateway Park.
Assistant manager Gavin Fell took charge of Saturday’s 4-2 defeat at Newcastle Blue Star and he has now been confirmed as successor to Connor after the latter agreed to become the first appointment since a community interest company, led by supporters and sponsors, officially completed a takeover at Spartans last week.
