Cockermouth Under-15s hosted Wigton determined to bounce back after their defeat last week in the county cup to Workington.
The young Wasps certainly took it out on a spirited Wigton side, emerging 67-17 winners in the end.
They got off to a great start with a run from deep by the powerful Keane Devoy as he made the try-line.
The Wasps had been working hard on the breakdown in training and it showed with some impressive turn-overs and clear-outs from Jamie Graham, Dayton Hewitt and Freddie Fee.
The size and physicality of Wigton resulted in the tactical decision for Cockermouth to keep the ball alive and exploit the ‘pop up’ where possible.

This proved highly effective and Wigton struggled to cope with the pace and speed Cockermouth moved the ball, not just in the tackle but in the backline as well. This resulted in more tries from Harry Johnston, Fee and Evan Thornthwaite for a half-time lead of 38-5.
The second half was much the same with the Wasps scoring tries with great support play and pace. Wigton never gave up with their big pack and managed to get across for a couple of scores but the damage had already been done.

The Cockermouth try scorers were: Evan Thornthwaite (2), Aiden Steel (2), Keane Devoy, Nate Nellist, Tom Wood, Thomas Dickinson, Jamie Graham, Freddie Fee and Harry Johnston. Robson Campbell kicked six conversions.
The Cockermouth MOM named by Wigton was Evan Thornthwaite, fully deserved for his performance at full-back.
The Wigton tries were scored by Callum Graham, Harvey Parker and Lucas Smailes with one conversion from Josh Tubman.
