England Community Lions completed a hugely successful tour of Australia recently – and seven Cumbrians were proud to fly the flag for the county.
The five players – Kieran Glen and Leon Crellin (both Egremont); Charlie Tomlinson and Ellison Holgate (Wath Brow) and Dominic Wear (Kells) were joined by assistant coach Gary Hewer and tour manager Alan Davidson.
After a controversial defeat in the warm-up game they responded in great fashion by winning the two Test matches – nilling their opponents Western Australia in the first game.

The Australians were excellent hosts and although the tour ended in a quarter final defeat in a Nines Festival, the Lions left for home in great heart and with fond memories of their time Down Under.
To get a feel of what it was like with the Lions on tour, Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh spoke to Dominic Wear, who played all 180 minutes of the Test matches, for his memories of a very successful first visit to Australia.
