A Lake District school will give a special farewell to its head of music who is retiring from the profession after 41 years.
Janet McCallum Hartley will leave Windermere School at the end of the academic year and pupils will perform Fiddler on the Roof next month as a tribute.
Mrs McCallum Hartley has been an integral part of the Windermere School community, beginning her journey there as a music teacher before becoming both the head of music and a houseparent in the sixth form boarding house.
The school said: “Her commitment to nurturing talent and her passion for music and theatre have enriched Windermere School and left a lasting legacy.
“Over the years, Mrs McCallum Hartley has brought to life many unforgettable productions, including The Addams Family, Legally Blonde, and Hairspray.
“This year’s choice, Fiddler on the Roof, holds special significance as it has long been her favourite musical, chosen as a heartfelt tribute to her career and contributions.”
West End choreographer Ashley Johnson has been guiding pupils through the difficult dances of the production.
Pupils recently performed a sneak preview of some of the Fiddler on the Roof songs at a special concert at Jesus Church, Troutbeck.
The school added: “This production promises to be an unforgettable experience and a true celebration of Mrs McCallum Hartley’s time at Windermere. We warmly invite the local community to join us for this special event as we celebrate our talented pupils and send Mrs McCallum Hartley off with the joy she deserves.”
It will be performed on December 5, 6, and 7 at 7pm. Tickets are available from https://www.trybooking.com/uk/DXNN
