Workington Reds picked up an important away win at Mickleover – ahead of an important week at Borough Park.
The 3-1 win after a difficult journey down ended a run of three away games in a row against teams below them in the table which Reds lost, drew and won.
There was high praise for defender Efe Ambrose who made it to Mickleover after – being snowed in at his Scottish home; being too late to catch the coach at Penrith; travelled by car and missed it again at Preston and eventually caught-up with his team-mates at Lymm Services.
Ambrose, who had a shaky start as a Workington player after his move from Bury, has been outstanding in recent games and picked up another man of the match award at Mickleover.
They host Basford United on Tuesday night and then entertain runaway League leaders Macclesfield on Saturday.
Manager Mark Fell says it is important to back up Saturday’s win with a big performance and a victory on Tuesday, before what he describes as a “free hit” against Macclesfield at the weekend.
Reds still had eight players missing at Mickleover, but will have at least one back on Tuesday night with Cieran Casson returning earlier than expected.
