A pair of Lake District walkers were forced to carry their 20kg dog after they got lost.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were already out on a call on Saturday, November 16 when the volunteers were called at around 5pm and told the walkers and their Labrador were struggling to make progress on Screes.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Their dog was also being carried at this point, making it particularly hazardous across the boulder fields.
“Additional team members were called out to help. A foot party made their way to scene with a boat party being organised to follow.
“Once on scene it was confirmed there were no injuries but were cold and wet.
“All members of the party, including the now rested 20kg Labrador were content to attempt the walk with help from the team. They managed to successfully make it back to the team vehicles, with onward transport provided back to their vehicle.
“It was lovely to receive a visit from the walking party the following day, especially when accompanied by very nice biscuits.”
A full callout was already underway at Hollow Stones, Scafell Pike. The team had been called at around 3.45pm by Cumbria police about a walker who had slipped and injured his ankle.
The team said: “On arrival the walker had continued to make progress downhill by hopping supported by his walking poles. However there was still approximately 400m to descend and so it was decided that the best course of action was to stretcher off.
“The ankle was splinted and the routine stretcher carry was made to Brackenclose. The walker’s friends took him to hospital for further assessment.”
