A young Cumbrian bike racer has impressed at an intensive Spanish training camp.
Travis Shaw, 10, of Barrow, competes on a full Grand Prix-spec chassis with 12 inch wheels and a 70cc six-speed two-stroke engine.
He recently flew to Spain for the three-day training camp, tackling three tracks and completing over 250 laps on his 2025 bikes: the Metrakit GP70 and the Metrakit GP80.
His dad Dan said: “The trip was an essential part of his pre-season preparation, offering valuable time to refine his skills and familiarise himself with the new machines. Despite a series of challenges, Travis showcased resilience and determination, leaving his family excited for the season ahead.”
The first day at Aspar saw him complete around 100 laps, but the day came to an abrupt end following a high-speed crash on a fast corner.
Dan said: “Luckily Travis avoided serious injuries with only bruises, but left the GP70 severely damaged and unusable.”
Day two saw him at the Chiva Circuit and with the GP70 under repair, Travis focused on the GP80 for most of the day.
A low-side crash while attempting a challenging inside pass on a slower rider briefly interrupted his momentum. However, quick repairs by Dan allowed both bikes to be back on track later in the day. Travis completed over 60 laps.
Day three at Fortuna Circuit saw both bikes operational. Dan said: “Over 80 laps were logged during the day, with noticeable improvements in his consistency and cornering techniques.

“Despite the bikes bearing visible scars from the previous days, Travis finished the camp with a strong and confident performance.
“While there is still room to refine techniques, particularly in overtaking and high-speed cornering, his growth during the camp was undeniable.
“Travis is really starting to show his potential. This training camp was a tough test, but he approached every challenge with determination, and we’re excited to see how he performs in the upcoming season.”
Travis will continue his preparation ahead of the new season, with more pre-season training in the new year.
Dan added: “Despite the bumps and scrapes – both literal and figurative – the training camp proved to be an invaluable experience for Travis, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling season.”
