Workington Reds have responded to allegations from Macclesfield manager Robbie Savage that he was subjected to unacceptable abuse at Borough Park at the weekend.
Savage claimed that it was the worst abuse he had suffered and said that it had been unacceptable and was allowed to go on too long.
The Reds issued a statement saying: “We were disappointed to hear Robbie’s remarks about the alleged abuse he suffered during the game.
“We will be investigating the matter fully, including requesting footage from Mr Savage’s bodyguard in due course.
“If there are learnings we can take as a club then we will look to implement improvements immediately.
“Emotions were clearly running high on both sides of the perimeter fence at full-time and we’d hope, on reflection, everyone involved will realise they can be better people in those type of situations in future.
Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh was reporting for BBC Radio Cumbria at the match and it was his interview with the Macclesfield manager which sparked the debate after the game.

Macclesfield won the game with a goal in the 91st minute just when it looked as though the Reds would be the first team to keep a clean sheet against them this season.
Reds boss Mark Fell said he was disappointed at the end that Savage refused to shake hands with certain people in the home dug-out which was a lack of respect.
