Penrith produced an outstanding performance in their Northern League Division One clash with Marske United to win 2-0.
It could have been more, too, as they created several good opportunities but the fact they were able to keep a clean sheet was a welcome bonus.
The Penrith defence hardly gave Marske a sniff at goal, while with the ball the Bonnyblues played some slick, attractive football.
They had to be patient, too, for after a goal-less first half they did not make the breakthrough until the 75th minute when Andy Murray-Jones scored the opener.
It was always a slender lead until Luke Hunter grabbed the second, but that did not arrive until the 90th minute.
That was a welcome start to a busy month which continues tonight with a visit to Newcastle Benfield. The pair are 12th and 13th in the table, Benfield just ahead by a point and both have played 22 games.
That’s followed by a home game on Saturday against West Auckland who are currently six points better off in ninth but from two more games.
On Friday, December 13 comes a derby clash at Kendal Town followed on Tuesday, December 17 with a massive home game against Redcar Athletic current leaders and strong favourites to win the title.
They are at home to Guisborough Town on December 21 before Boxing Day sees another Cumbrian derby at Carlisle City.
And still it goes on with a trip to Crook Town on December 28 to complete the 2024 programme.
